Pressure tells you when
A filter is due when the gauge sits well above where it read after the last clean. Running past that starves the pump, which is a far more expensive part.
Cleaned, not just hosed
A hose takes the surface off. Getting the oils and sunscreen out of the pleats needs a soak, and a cartridge that is never soaked is a cartridge replaced twice as often.
